Brooke Adams Skis at the US Junior Olympics
Brooke Adams returned from Presque Isle, Maine on Sunday after competing for the Midwest in her 3rd Junior Olympics in Nordic Skiing. Brooke competed in the Junior 1 female division which consisted of 16-18 year old skiers. There were 80 skiers in her division, which included skiers from 10 regions of the U.S.

The Spooner Nordic Ski team wrapped up the season with members of the team competing in both the Jr. Birkie and Kortolopet.

Wisconsin State High School Championships
February 13, 2010
Spooner Nordic Ski team traveled to Wausau over the weekend to compete in the Wisconsin State Championships.
The girl’s team placed 5th out of 16 teams, led by senior Brooke Adams who placed 3rd in the classic race, 1st in the freestyle skate race and 3rd in the pursuit. Middle school skier Rachael Jensen placed 8th in the Middle School skate race.
The races were held on Saturday with the 5.4 km classic race starting in the morning. The 5.4 freestyle skate race was held in the afternoon. The skate race was a pursuit race with the skiers going out at various times depending on how they did in the morning classic race. Brooke Adams had a 33 second gap from first place as she raced the second race. She narrowed the gap in the pursuit race with a close finish for 2nd place, with Nicole Bathe of Madison edging her out by one second.
There were 142 girls who participated in the State event.

Telemark Super Tour
January 30 and 31, 2010
The Telemark SuperTour races were the last tune-up races on the SASD ski team schedule before the Wisconsin State Nordic Ski Championships. The races were held on the Telmark Lodge ski trails in Cable, WI.
On Saturday, the team skied a 5km classic interval race.

Brooke Adams skied in the Junior 1 division of the Junior Olympic qualifying races. In the 15 km classic interval race, Brooke placed 9th with a time of 33:56. She skied part of the race with a broken pole.
On Sunday, Brooke placed 5th with a time of 20:07 in the the freestyle 10 km event. After 8 races, Brooke has qualified for her 3rd Junior Olympics. The event will be held in Presque Isle, Maine on March 7-13th.

Conference Meet
January 26, 2010
On Tues, January 26th, the Spooner ski team traveled to Seeley to ski the first ever Conference Meet. It was sponsored by the Hayward ski team. Participating teams racing the 6km classic event were Lakeland, 4-H Canski, Spooner, Hayward and Drummond.
The girls varsity and junior varsity placed 3rd in each event. Senior Brooke Adams placed 2nd and Sophmore Iciar Ocariz placed 9th to take home Conference medals.

13th Annual Balsam Vinter Fest
January 23, 2010
Members of the SASD Ski team participated in the Balsam Vinter Fest 6K High School / Middle School race on January 23 at D. D. Kennedy Park near Amery. The team skied very well under wet, warm (30 degrees), rainy and windy conditions. The Spooner girls were first in the team competition. Barron took first in the boys team competition.

Kaylee Thornley was first in her age group in the 20km race. Luke Riewestahl was 6th in the boys' 6km race with a time of 28:10 Iciar Ocariz was the 2nd overall finisher, 2 seconds behind the first skier from the Barron boys' team.

Seeley Hills Classic
January 16, 2010
The Spooner Nordic team traveled to Seeley on Saturday to participate in the Seeley Hills Classic Ski race. The race for the High School was a 5 km classic race. Katerine Ocariz was the 2nd place finisher for females with Beth Kujala placing a close 3rd. Brooke Adams placed 3rd female in the 22km race. Spooner Alumni Sante Ocariz breezed to first place in the 22km race, breaking the course record with a time of 59:01. Several Spooner coaches also participated in the races. Spooner Nordic Holiday Ski Race Results
December 28, 2009
The day after racing in the Hayward Invitational, Spooner hosted the Spooner Nordic Holiday Race at the new High School with a 6 km mass start at the City Park trails behind the school. Teams participating in the event were Spooner, Hayward, Canski (Washburn/Ashland), Barron, Amery, Drummond and Lake Nebagamon. Hayward won the girls race with Spooner placing 2nd. The Canski boys won the boys event over Hayward by one point. Brooke Adams took the podium for Spooner with a 2nd place finish and Rachael Jensen took 3rd in the girls 4km MS race.

Hayward Invite (Classic)
December 28, 2009
The Spooner Nordic team traveled to Hayward on Monday, December 28th to race under the lights at the 00 Nordic Ski chalet. Spooner girls placed second with Brooke Adams taking a first in the 5 km classic race and Iciar Ocariz 4th. Middle school team member Rachael Jensen finished 4th in the girls 3km race.

Spooner Nordic Holiday Ski Race
Spooner High School Nordic Ski Club will be hosting a Holiday Ski Race on Tuesday, December 29 at 1:00 pm. The race will be a 6km mass start skate race starting from the trails at the back of the High School. The HS boys will lead out the races with the girls following. The Middle school will then follow with a 4km skate race. A chili dinner will be provided for a $5.00 fee. Teams competing will be Spooner, Hayward, Drummond and
Rice Lake, and Amery.
The Ski Club will be have a busy racing week as they are traveling to the Hayward race on Monday December 28th at 5:30 to race under the lights at 00 in Seeley. They will then travel to Bruce on Saturday Jan 2nd to race in the Blue Hills Ascent.
