Spirit Chains

The Spirit Chains program was started at the beginning of second semester of this school year.  It was designed as a basic skills work program for students in the SPED program at SHS. The skills in the basic manufacture of the key chains are sorting, spelling, knot-tying, measuring.  The students must learn some marketing and were helpful in designing a rack to display the finished chains.  The initial target of the key chain sales were students and parents of both the Rails students and students and parents of opposing teams.  The students in the program had to use the internet to research team colors and nicknames in order to accurately assemble the key chains.  The sectional tournaments were a great success as the participating teams and their fans really appreciated seeing these personalized souvenirs.  The ability to personalize the chains with names, graduation year, jersey numbers, sports beads, etc. has become a popular seller as well.  The key chains are sold during lunch at the high school and during athletic contests.  The students are currently looking for an outlet for the chains during the summer months and will be contacting local businesses to determine if there is a market for their product.  For more information on this program contact Tim Donovan at 635-2172 ext. 4286 or donovant@spooner.k12.wi.us
